Wide angle lenses are used for taking photos of sunsets, panoramic views, etc. Through my research, I have found the Tokina 11-16mm f/2.8 to be the best choice. Unfortunately, this wide-angle lens costs around $500 USD and won’t autofocus on various Nikon D40 and D60 models. Among third-party models, the Tokina 11-16mm f/2.8 wide angle zoom lens is the clear winner. An added bonus is that this lens costs about half of its main competitor, the Nikon 12-24mm. It is basically the only third party lens to feel sturdy and heavy. This ultra wide lens is by far the fastest, sharpest lens for SLRs (single lens reflex cameras). Also, I find that the distortion on this model is much, much easier to edit and correct. The Tokina is much faster in f-stop and focusing than virtually all of its (third party) competitors. I often hear users prefer the Sigma 12-24mm wide angle zoom lens, but still far more users complain of its excessive weight and size. The Sigma is a definite no no for any digital camera user in need of a wide angle zoom lens. The best website from which to purchase the Tokina 11-16mm f/2.8 is probably Amazon.com or Adorama.com. Both sites will provide you with the product you need. This product is magnificent and you will never see a wide angle shot with such sharpness and clarity.
